I crossed paths with this Malayan Tiger at the Palm Beach Zoo in West Palm Beach, FL.

This cat is Malaysia’s forest ghost – powerful, solitary, and heartbreakingly rare. Found only in Peninsular Malaysia, they move like a shadow through dense rainforest, relying on prey such as deer and wild boar to survive. Tigers live mostly alone and each tiger needs a large and connected territory. Fragmented forests and prey declines make survival impossible. Biggest threats are snaring/poaching, habitat loss, and the illegal wildlife trade – making anti-snare work and habitat protection essential. Listed as “Critically Endangered, there are only 150 tigers thought to remain in the wild.
