I crossed paths with this Laughing Gull on Shem Creek in Mount Pleasant, SC.
 
The Laughing Gull is the "life of the party" seabirds. Their cackling "ha-ha-ha" truly sounds like a laughter carried on the wind. They are smart, social, and always on the move. In breeding season, they wear a sleek black hood and flash bright red bill accents. They nest in noisy colonies along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts and use their instinctive "seasonal strategy" to time their nesting, so chicks hatch when food is most plentiful. They spend most of their time cruising beaches, tidal flats, and harbors to snatch fish, insects, crabs, and whatever someone drops on the boardwalks.
