I crossed paths with this American White Ibis at Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant, SC.
I will donate 15% of the sale of this limited edition print to Wildlife Conservation.
This bird is one of the true characters of coastal Florida and the Lowcountry – bright white with coral/red face and a long, down curved bill made for “foraging by feel”. You will spot them marching through marshes, mudflats, mangroves, and wet lawns - probing the mud for crabs, crayfish, insects, and small fish. They are social birds, often feeding in loose flocks. When they take off, their black wingtips flash like ink strokes against the sky. Baby white ibis are not white. Juveniles start out brown and gradually turn white as they mature. In Florida, it is protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act and state protections, even though it is not listed as endangered.
