I crossed paths with this Gouldian Finch at the Franklin Park Zoo in Boston, MA.
I will donate 15% of the sale of this limited edition print to Wildlife Conservation.
The Gouldian Finch is basically a living jewel – lime green back, purple chest, golden belly, and a head that can be red, black, or yellow depending on the bird. They are native to northern Australia. They track grass seed seasons and stay close to water – nesting in tree hollows on open savanna woodland. One of the biggest modern pressures is hot late-dry season wildfires, which can wipe out key seed supplies and reduce nesting hollows. Globally, they are of “Least Concern” with a stable trend. But, in Australia, they are listed as “Endangered” – reflecting serious decline and conservation concern.
