I crossed paths with this American Flamingo at Jungle Island in Miami, FL.
I will donate 15% of the sale of this limited edition print to Wildlife Conservation.
This iconic tall, bubble-gum-pink bird of the tropical coastlines lives in salt flats, shallow lagoons, and mangrove edges across the Caribbean, the Yucatan, and parts of northern South America. Their color comes from their diet of tiny algae and crustaceans. They feed in a super-weird and wonderful way – head upside-down, using a filtering bill to strain food from the water. Florida’s wild flamingos were heavily reduced by the early 1900s, but they are thought to be increasing again. Florida wildlife officials note Florida’s population is still just a tiny fraction of the global total. Globally, the Flamingo is currently listed as “Least Concern”.
