I crossed paths with this Baltimore Oriole at the Columbus Zoo & Aquarium in Columbus, OH.
I will donate 15% of the sale of this limited edition print to Wildlife Conservation.
The Baltimore Oriole is basically spring wearing a tuxedo – blazing orange and black – flashing through treetops in neighborhoods, parks, and woodland edges across eastern North America. They are medium to long distance migrants, breeding from Louisiana up through central Canada in spring and then heading back south to winter in Florida, the Caribbean, Central America, and even the northern tip of South America – as early as July. Females weave one of the coolest nests in the bird world – a hanging hammock-like pouch suspended from slender branches. Beautiful engineering that helps keep eggs and chicks safer from many predators. Globally, they are “Least Concern” – even though they are vulnerable to pressures such as habitat loss and insecticides that reduce their insect food.
